Advent Antiphons: December 18th

Christ our King is coming, he is the Lamb foretold by John.

It was written in the Scriptures, and written even in the stars as the Magi would learn, that a great ruler had been promised to Israel.  One who would restore what had fractured after David, one who would embody in His person the perfection of justice, wisdom, and charity.

And it was also written that this ruler would be rejected, and His life would be offered up as a sacrifice for sins.  Jesus is not just any lamb, though He is indeed meek, gentle, and mild as the shepherds would learn in Bethlehem.  He comes as the Lamb of Sacrifice, and because He will lay down His life, He will reign supreme as King.  The one who is coming is mighty because He is meek.   He will live forever because He will freely die.  He shows us that our own path to glory also must pass through the pain of sacrifice.
