Behold, the Desired of all the nations will come, and the house of the Lord will be filled with glory. Cf. Haggai 2:7
When the temple was rebuilt after the Babylonian Exile, it was a heartfelt cry of longing and invitation that summoned the Lord to return to dwell once more in His house. For centuries, God had filled dwellings with His glory, from the holy ground on mountain tops with burning bushes, to the Meeting Tent, to the Temple of Solomon. All of those houses proved to be temporary dwellings as He prepared His people, His “house,” for grander and grander dwellings.
Until one day, in a move only the prophets dimly grasped, God’s glory would fill the dwelling place of Our Lady, and through her He would construct a body for Himself, to be born, sacrificed, and raised again. All so that His house, the Church, filled with His glory, could grow to the ends of the earth and fill the whole world.
Advent is construction season for the master builder of houses. It is us He wants to fashion into the dwelling place of His glory.
