Advent Antiphons: November 29th

The Lord will bestow his bounty, and our earth shall yield its increase.  Psalm 85: 13

Indeed, God promises a bountiful harvest in His grace.  Once upon a time, when much of the world farmed, the promise by God of a rich harvest instilled trust in the hearts of His chosen people.  Without food there is no life.  God shows Himself to be the true provider of all the fruits of the earth.  He therefore shows Himself to be the source of authentic security.

In time He would reveal that the bounty and the increase He promises, and seeks, is a harvest of souls:  a world filled with believers.  It is an impressive thing to raise crops up out of the earth, and the ancients respected such power.  But, it is far more impressive to produce a bumper crop of disciples.

As Advent begins we are reassured that He will bring about the harvest for which we all thirst: an earth filled with the love of the Lord.
